For her second year back teaching full time at the studio, Pirouette is proud to announce that Miss Kia was sent to Toronto to continue her dance teacher training in July 2013. She will be studying the ADAPT syllabus for Tap and Jazz. This training will continue over the next two summers. Miss Kia will be able to start putting forward dancers for ADAPT exams during the 2013/14 dance season.
Miss Kia was born in New Westminster, BC and found her passion for dance after moving to Calgary, Alberta at the age of five. Kia is trained in various disciplines such as tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop and lyrical. Her dance career continued after moving to Cold Lake at the age of fourteen. She joined Pirouette, dancing both recreationally and competitively. At sixteen, she began student teaching, where she discovered the joy of sharing her love of dance with others. After graduating from high school, Kia attended the University of Calgary's Bachelor of Science program. She soon realized that teaching dance was her passion. She continued teaching dance while living in Calgary, but chose to return home to be surrounded by family and friends. Kia is looking forward to teaching various styles of dance to all ages. In August 2012, she attended the Team Motivate conference with Alberta Dance Alliance and found it very inspiring! She hopes to pass on her passion for dance to all her students. During the 2012/13 dance season, Kia earned many top awards with her teams, including Choreography Awards and Most Promising.
Miss Hilary was born and raised in Cold Lake, where she started to attend dance classes in her late childhood. Through the course of learning the different disciplines, she discovered that dancing was her passion. She learned that teaching dance was another passion of hers, as she began assistant teaching at the age of 14. She continued to pursue student teaching at the studio and naturally began choreographing for various events and festival numbers. She then moved to Edmonton, Alberta to pursue dancing and to study massage therapy at Grant Macewan University. She auditioned and joined the Edmonton Crush dance team in association to The Edmonton Rush Lacrosse Club in the NLL. She danced with the Crush team for two seasons. She has taken a number of dance intensives and workshops, working with many world-renowned choreographers, including Mina Ortega and Shandon Kolberg. She has danced for a number of events in Edmonton, including back-up dancing for 91.7’s The Bounce Showdown showcase. While in Edmonton, Hilary continued to attend classes as well, including advanced technique classes at Casey’s dance studio. Hilary has received a number of awards over the years, and continues to study a variety of dance style including; ballet, jazz, lyrical, pointe, contemporary and hip hop. This season, Hilary joins us as a festival team teacher as well!
Miss Janet is very pleased to be the Highland Dancing instructor at Pirouette School of Dance. Janet has been Highland Dancing for 25 years, and has competed at the highest level. A qualified teacher since 2004, she is a Member of the Scottish Dance Teachers’ Alliance in both Highland and National dances. She has a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Science of Agriculture, and has worked on farms all over Alberta, Ontario, and in New Zealand. In her spare time, Janet enjoys playing bagpipes, gardening, crocheting and sewing, reading, and playing with her dog.
Miss Tara started performing in musicals early on at the age of 10 years. She’s performed in musicals such as "Fiddler on the Roof", "Evita", "Oliver", "Grease", "Bye Bye Birdie", "The Sound of Music", Neil Simon's "I Ought to be in Pictures" and many more!! Besides the theatre, she has performed in the music festival, the provincial music festival, across Canada, and toured Europe with the United States Collegiate Choir. She’s won various awards at festivals and competitions for voice and musical theatre. She also performed as an MC for the Televised Opening Ceremonies for the Canada Winter Games. Ms. Tara also plays the violin, viola, and a little piano and has years of private lessons behind her. Added to that is 6 years of dance training. After finishing her Business Certificate at Grande Prairie Regional College, she obtained her diploma in vocal performance with a minor in Drama. Tara started teaching private voice lessons in 1998, and taught voice and musical theatre through the Conservatory at the Grande Prairie Regional College. After leaving Grande Prairie, she also taught for a year and half out of The Edmonton Children's Dance Theatre heading up their drama program. Three years ago, she moved to Bonnyville and after a very successful first year teaching out of the Lyle Victor Centre, she looks forward to the growth potential of theatre arts in the Lakeland. The Pirouette School of Dance is excited to offer Musical Theatre with Ms. Tara for the third year in a row.
Evelyn is a certified Zumba® Instructor. She was born in San Salvador, El Salvador. Since she was little, she danced Latin Music (Salsa, Merengue, and Cumbia) as any other Latin girl. When she was in high school, she was part of the Dance Group that received a second place standing in a competition. The love of dance grew from that and Evelyn learned professional Latin dance moves with an instructor from The National Group of Dance of El Salvador. When she finished high school, she decided to move to New York to learn English. Six months later, she returned to her home country where she applied to Don Bosco University and studied 3.5 years of Bachelor in English. In 2007 Evelyn moved to Canada. She holds the following certificates: Zumba® Instructor Basic Steps 1 and 2 Certificates, Zumba® Gold, and Zumba® Toning Instructor. She also holds a Standard First Aid Level “C” CPR and AED Certificate.

Miss Alexandra has been instructing dance for over 10 years in our Lakeland community and surrounding area. Dancing herself since the age of 3, she has trained wih the Edmonton School of Ballet's professional program, Victoria School's Theatre Arts and St. Andrew's Ukrainian Dance. She has completed many Cecchetti and RAD ballet examinations, as well as competed, performed and completed teacher's training courses. Alexandra's belief is to uphold a child's happiness within a fun-filled learning environment. As she teaches her students, she hopes to create and nurture a lifelong love and knowledge of dance.
