For her second year back teaching full time at the studio, Pirouette is proud to announce that Miss Kia was sent to Toronto to continue her dance teacher training in July 2013. She will be studying the ADAPT syllabus for Tap and Jazz. This training will continue over the next two summers. Miss Kia was born in New Westminster, BC and found her passion for dance after moving to Calgary, Alberta at the age of five. Kia is trained in various disciplines such as tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop and lyrical. Her dance career continued after moving to Cold Lake at the age of fourteen. She joined Pirouette, dancing both recreationally and competitively. At sixteen, she began student teaching, where she discovered the joy of sharing her love of dance with others. After graduating from high school, Kia attended the University of Calgary's Bachelor of Science program. She soon realized that teaching dance was her passion. She continued teaching dance while living in Calgary, but chose to return home to be surrounded by family and friends. Kia is looking forward to teaching various styles of dance to all ages. In August 2012, she attended the Team Motivate conference with Alberta Dance Alliance and found it very inspiring! She hopes to pass on her passion for dance to all her students. During the 2012/13 dance season, Kia earned many awards with her teams, including Choreography Awards and Most Promising.
Miss Gemma was born in Cheshire, England where she trained at her local dance school. At the age of six, Gemma was invited as part of her dance school to perform at Disney World Resort, Florida. Alongside this, she also took part in a number of amateur and professional productions, including several pantomimes working with household names from film and TV. Having discovered a passion for the theatre, she embarked on a three-year course at Stella Mann College where she graduated with a Level 4 Diploma in Musical Theatre and as an Associate of The Royal Academy of Dance. Since graduating, she has worked abroad in Tenerife as a dancer and assistant choreographer, and as a dancer/entertainer for Warner Leisure Breaks at Bodelwyddan Castle, North Wales.
